80 years ago Nazi Germany was defeated. This post is dedicated to all those who fought this evil. Nazism and fascism should never be allowed to repeat itself.
“On the European front the most important development of the past year has been without question the crushing counter-offensive on the part of the great armies of Russia against the powerful German army. These Russian forces have destroyed and are destroying more armed power of our enemies — troops, planes, tanks and guns — than all the other United Nations put together.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt, April 28, 1942.
” Let’s be blunt: the German army lost World War II on the Eastern Front. For most of the war, 75-80 percent of the Wehrmacht had to be deployed in the East, a preponderance dictated by the sheer size of the front, and 80 percent of German war dead perished there: about four million of the five million German soldiers killed in World War II.” – the National WWII Museum, New Orleans
“Generalplan Ost was Nazi Germany’s plan for the colonization and Germanization of Central and Eastern Europe over a period of twenty-five years. Implementing it would have necessitated genocide and ethnic cleansing on a vast scale to be undertaken in the Eastern European territories occupied by Germany during World War II. It would have included the extermination and de-population of most Slavic people in Eastern Europe.” – Wikipedia.
If you plan to visit Germany, try to visit Nuremberg and remember the darker stories of German history.
