in History and Culture

Port Festival – Fete du Port is one of the largest annual festivals in Nice, France. This celebration is fun and admission is free.

As the name suggests, this event is centered around the seaport of Nice. The harbor is not very extensive, but it is mostly full of small boats, which makes it very picturesque.

One of the main draws is an opportunity to taste excellent Provence food. Many local restaurants use this to promote their specialties. So do the wineries, bakeries, cheese makers etc.

Visitors can sample various Provence products and order their favorites from the Chef’s Village. People enjoy the local Nicoise cuisine sitting by the seaside.

One of the local Provence dishes is socca, a flatbread made from chickpeas that is topped with tomato, olive, or artichoke spreads.

Pissaladiere is another Provence dish. It is a pizza-like tart with caramelized onions, olives and anchovies.

All Provence dishes go well with a glass of the famous Rose from Cote d’Azur region. Served chilled Rose pairs with most local Provence delicacies.

The parade at the Nice Port Festival will entertain everyone.  And do not forget about the fireworks that will be displayed later, usually around 10:30.
